Almond Blossom is a group of several paintings done in 1888 and 1890 by Vincent van Gogh in Arles and Saint-Rémy, southern France of almond blossom. Flowering trees were special to van Gogh. They represented awakening and hope.
In May 1889, after sad episodes of self-mutilation and hospitalization, Vincent van Gogh opted to enter an asylum in Saint-Rémy, France. There, in the last year before his death, he created nearly 130 paintings. In the first week, he started painting “Irises”, working from nature in the asylum's garden.
The Starry Night is a painting by Vincent van Gogh from 1889. The work depicts a view from the window of a room in the hospice of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of a village idealized by the artist . The canvas has been part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1941.
